Aer Rianta workers to be balloted on strike action

Unions representing airport workers have informed Aer Rianta of their plan to ballot their members on industrial action over the Government's plans to break up the company.

Unions representing airport workers have informed Aer Rianta of their plan to ballot their members on industrial action over the Government's plans to break up the company.

The ballot will begin early next week and the results are expected on September 6.

Transport Minister Seamus Brennan is planning to abolish Aer Rianta and replace it with three separate companies to run Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports.

Unions have claimed that the move makes no economic sense and will lead to job losses.
