Judge: Convicted teen had 'track record as long as my arms'

A teenager who was found with about €2,000 worth of stolen power-tools was today described by a judge as having “a track record as long as my arms” and remanded in custody pending sentence.

A teenager who was found with about €2,000 worth of stolen power-tools was today described by a judge as having “a track record as long as my arms” and remanded in custody pending sentence.

The youth, who recently turned 18, pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children’s Court to handling the stolen tools and travelling in a stolen car, on April 28 last, at Castle Avenue, Dublin 3.

This case is his last to be dealt with in the Children’s Court and has saw him attain his 43rd criminal conviction. His convictions related to motoring, burglary public order and theft offences. He had also been given a three-year road ban a couple of months before his arrest.

“They have track records as long as my arms. They are not novices,” said Judge Angela Ní Chonduin about the teen and a 21-year-old co-defendant who had 21 previous convictions.

The court heard that the north inner city Dublin teenager had served several sentences in the past and had developed alcohol and drug problems.

She adjourned the case until February 27 for a pre-sentence probation report to be furnished to the court. Bail was refused.
