SIPTU to discuss redundancies at Balfour Beatty CLG

Engineering services firm Balfour Beatty CLG is to seek up to 76 redundancies as part of a restructuring of its operations.

Engineering services firm Balfour Beatty CLG is to seek up to 76 redundancies as part of a restructuring of its operations.

The Finglas-based company was established in 2011 as a joint venture between British infrastructure firm Balfour Beatty and Dublin's CLG Developments to carry out network services, and works for Bord Gáis Networks.

At the time 320 employees were transferred to the new company from Emerald Gas Limited, CLG Developments Limited and GMC Construction Limited. These companies had previously provided the services to Bord Gáis Networks that were taken over by Balfour Beatty CLG Limited.

The company is seeking 76 redundancies consisting of 32 indoor and 44 outdoor staff across the country.

Among the depots affected by threatened redundancies are those in Cork, Carlow, Galway and Dublin.

SIPTU, which represents workers at the company, is to meet with management on Monday to discuss the proposed redundancies.

"SIPTU is already in a process of constructive engagement with the company and everything will be done to eliminate or reduce the number of proposed redundancies," the trade union said.
