John Malkovich is saying au revoir to France because of a feud over taxes.

The American actor and his wife Nicole Peyran have lived with their two children in Provence for several years but now, he says, he cannot afford to stay any longer.

He told the New York Daily News that the French tax authorities expect him to pay 65% of his income in tax and apply to the US authorities for rebate.

“They interpret things one way, I interpret them another,” the actor told the newspaper, adding that he considers himself a victim of “triple taxation.”

“I’ve always loved France but now I have no idea where we are going. We have to be out by the autumn when the kids start school so we’re going to wander around and have a look around.”

Malkovich recently directed Javier Bardem in The Dancer Upstairs, based on the novel by Nicholas Shakespeare.
