Robert Mueller, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States, has warned that further suicide bombings in the US are inevitable.

Mr Mueller told the National Association of District Attorneys that bombings like those carried out by Palestinian militants in Israel will almost certainly take place in the US.

“There will be another terrorist attack. We will not be able to stop it,” he said.

“It’s something we all live with. I wish I could be more optimistic.”

Mr Mueller’s warning echoed similar concerns expressed by US Vice-President Dick Cheney in recent days.
