The German economy is set for modest economic gains in 2004 according to six leading economic think-tanks.
Gross domestic product (GDP) in Germany would "stagnate this year and only expand moderately next year. In 2004, real GDP will grow by 1.7%" according to the institutes' forecasts.
This autumn report represents a downward revision from the institutes' previous report published in the spring, when they predicted a growth of 0.5% this year and a pick-up to 1.8% next year.
German GDP grew by a meagre 0.2% in 2002 and most economic experts are predicting zero growth this year.
The German government is scheduled to publish its new updated growth forecasts on Thursday.
