A 16-month-old boy has suffered brain damage and lost his sight after a toy car packed with explosves went off in Spain, killing his grandmother.

The bomb also injured his brother after it went off in San Sebastian.

Police believe the boy picked up the toy and carried it to his grandmother's vehicle.

His brother, whose age is not known, was slightly injured. Police have identified the grandmother only as a 62-year-old.

The blast occurred inside the family vehicle. The boy had just left a bar-restaurant owned by his aunt.

The aunt told police the toy car had been abandoned at the bar during the weekend and she had given them to her nephews.

The aunt was in the vehicle when it exploded but was not injured.

No-one has taken responsibility for the blast.
