Tomorrow’s Coral Welsh National meeting at Chepstow looks set to go ahead as scheduled after the track missed the snow and frost that hit other parts of Britain on Thursday night.

Snowfall forced fellow Welsh track Bangor to call off their Friday card, while in the north, Sedgefield endured temperatures of minus 5C overnight.

But Chepstow clerk of the course Keith Ottesen was pleasantly surprised to find the course had been hit by only a minimal amount of rainfall during the night and he is now confident the fixture, rearranged from December 27, will be able to take place.

“I’m very pleased as we’ve had no snow overnight and only six millimetres of rain,” said Ottesen.

“The track took it well and the ground remains soft. We’re due another eight to 10 millimetres of rain tonight, but I would anticipate being fine with that.

“Temperatures are due to rise from now through to Saturday as well, so we’ve dodged the snow and frost and I’ve got to be happy.

“The snow is all around us, just not here for some reason. However it’s happened, I’m happy it has.”
