Croke Park talks to continue today

Talks between trade unions and public sector management will resume this afternoon in a bid to gain agreement on a new Croke Park deal.

Discussions have so far failed to reach a compromise in relation to the further cuts to wages.

The Government yesterday told unions it wants savings of around €170m from payments for weekend and evening workers as part of an overall batch of cuts of €1bn across the public sector.

Other measures being considered are pay cuts for higher paid public servants, longer working hours and cuts in overtime and premium payments.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors and the Garda Representative Association have already refused to take part in the talks.

While the 24/7 Frontline Alliance - which represents up to 70,000 public servants will stage a rally in Dublin on Monday in opposition to the cuts.
