Counselling centre sees 60% rise in demand for services

A centre which provides counselling to prevent suicide and self harm recorded a 60% increase in demand for their services in June and July of this year.

A centre which provides counselling to prevent suicide and self harm recorded a 60% increase in demand for their services in June and July of this year.

Pieta House in Dublin is the only facility of its kind in the country.

Staff provided more than 1,000 counselling hours in the two-month period, at a time when they usually see a fall-off in demand.

They are also expressing concern that an increasing number of children are seeking their help.
