Kildare 0-14 Louth 2-7, Newbridge

John Doyle helped himself to eight points as Kildare just had the legs on Louth in an entertaining Division 1B tie at Newbridge.

The Lilywhites were coasting to their third league win when they led 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time with Doyle scoring 0-6 (3f).

But a brace of goals from full-forward Shane Lennon - the second a penalty on 64 minutes - almost saw Louth, who struck 11 wides in the opening half, pull off an unlikely win.

As it was, Kildare just did enough to move top of the table with impressive defender Emmet Bolton contributing three points from play.
