A street in Dublin's north inner city has been sealed off this morning following the discovery of a suspicious device.

Army bomb disposal experts are currently examining the object, which was found on North Brunswick Street in the Smithfield area at around 7am.

The road has been sealed off and traffic restrictions have been put in place.

An army spokesperson says the device has the appearance of a viable bomb and will be thoroughly examined before a decision is made on whether to carry out a controlled explosion.
