Two charged with firearms offences as part of Kelly murder investigation
A brother of murdered dissident republican Alan Ryan and another man have been charged with firearms offensives as part of a garda investigation in to the murder of Dublin man Michael Kelly in 2011.
The two men have already been charged with IRA membership following paramilitary activity at the funeral of Alan Ryan in early September.
Vincent Ryan (22), of Grange Abbey Drive, Donaghmede in Dublin 13, was this morning additionally charged with the possession of an AKM assault rifle and Webley-make revolver MkV1 at Clonshaugh Walk, Coolock, Dublin 17 on September 15th 2011.
Darragh Evans (23), of Grange Park Rise, Raheny, Dublin 5 is also charged with the same offence on the same date.
30-year-old Michael Kelly was shot dead outside an apartment complex on Marsfield Avenue, Clongriffin on September 15th, 2011.
Detective Garda Brendan Mears, of Coolock garda station, gave evidence that he met the two men in the confines of the court this morning and explained to them in ordinary language the reason for their arrest. He said neither man made any reply.
The two men, along with co-accused Nathan Kinsella (33), of Matt Talbot Court in Dublin City Centre, were last week charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on September 13th last.
There was no application for bail, however Presiding judge Mr Justice Paul Butler approved an application for legal aid made by solicitor Michael Finucane on behalf of Vincent Ryan.
Mr Justice Butler, sitting with judge Alison Lindsay and judge Cormac Dunne, remanded the men in custody to appear before the non-jury court again on Wednesday, October 3rd.
There was a shout in Irish and loud applause from a packed public gallery as the men were led away from the dock.
