Martin unrecognisable to fans

Chris Martin thinks Beyonce Knowles "needs" more attention than her male counterparts.

Chris Martin thinks Beyonce Knowles "needs" more attention than her male counterparts.

The Coldplay frontman – who is married to singer-and-actress Gwyneth Paltrow - thinks female stars such as the 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)' hitmaker and Lady Gaga have a more "real" fame than his band do because they are attractive women.

He told Live magazine: "Their fame is more a real thing. And with people like Beyonce and Lady Gaga … well it's different for girls. If you're very attractive you get more attention, you need more attention – like Beyonce. People would stare at her if she was a bus driver".

But the 34-year-old singer insists Coldplay – who are also made up of guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion - never get recognised when they're out and about in the street, not even by their own fans.

He added: "I'm telling you, it isn't like that for me – for us. People walk right past us. I'm not complaining. It may seem weird but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

"When we did our last gigs at the O2, I went there by Tube. I was with all the Coldplay fans and not one single person recognised me. It's true. When I'm on my own it just doesn't happen."
