Irish pitch invader body-tackled by LA stewards

An Irish student invaded the pitch after a recent Man United game – and got taken down hard.

According to Joe.ie this is Matthew Costigan, living in LA for the summer on a J1 visa.

He took advantage of the opportunity to see Man United take on local MLS team LA Galaxy in the famous Rose Bowl stadium.

After the final whistle blew Costigan ran on to the pitch, kicked the match ball away and then shook hands with United player Reece James.

Maybe he is more familiar with stewards in GAA matches and was hopeful of a gentle chiding before being escorted off the pitch.

If so, he got a rude awakening when the American stewards ruthlessly body-tackled him to the ground before frog-marching him from the pitch.

Ouch - we hope it was worth it because that tackle had to hurt!
