Protestors demonstrate in Dublin over Manning

The Irish Anti War Movement is holding a protest outside the US Embassy in Dublin this evening calling for Chelsea Manning to be released.

The American soldier was jailed for 35 years for passing over 700,000 secret military documents to Wikileaks and has said she intends to live the rest of her life as a woman called Chelsea.

Bradley Manning said she has felt female since childhood and now wants to start hormone therapy straight away.

Jim Roche from the Irish Anti War Movement says he should not be punished for telling the truth.

Meanwhile, the US Army said it doesn't provide hormone therapy or sex-reassignment surgery.

“All inmates are considered soldiers and are treated as such with access to mental health professionals, including a psychiatrist, psychologist, social workers and behavioural science non-commissioned officers,” Army spokesman George Wright said.
