Foreign troops were among a number of people killed and wounded when an Afghan Army officer opened fire after an argument at Kabul’s airport today.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident – the latest in a spate of attacks to have occurred inside government or military installations.
Defence Ministry spokesman General Mohammad Zahir Azimi said the gunman, an Afghan military pilot, was killed in the shooting, which occurred inside a facility used by the Afghan Air Force.
Gen Azimi said: “An Afghan officer opened fire on foreigners after an argument.
“For the past 20 years, he has been a military pilot. An argument happened between him and the foreigners and we have to investigate that.”
The ministry said a number of people died in the incident at the airport in Kabul, but gave no details.
One Afghan pilot said the gunman was Ahmad Gul, a 50-year-old pilot from Tarakhail district of Kabul province.
