NBRU may take action to disrupt bus and rail services

Bus and rail services may be disrupted within the next two weeks, as workers decide whether to take industrial action over plans to break up CIÉ, as well as the issuing of private bus licences.

After pulling out of talks with the Department of Transport earlier this week, the executive of the National Bus and Railworkers Union (NBRU) has met today to discuss the proposed strike, and to decide what form it would take.

Some members want a repeat of the "no-fares" day, while others would favour escalating strike action.

The union has expressed its anger and frustration with the Minister for granting licences to private operators during talks with CIÉ over the break-up of the company.

It has accused Seamus Brennan of failing to honour a commitment to provide definite proposals on the future of the Dublin Bus market by an agreed deadline.
