Jason McAteer has strained medial ligaments in his left knee, according o reports from the dressing room this morning.

He was stretchered off in Ireland's warm-up match against Hiroshima (half-time score: 1-1)

McAteer was not being ruled out of the World Cup, but it is not known when he will be fit again - and he will be a big doubt for next Saturday’s opening game against Cameroon.

As the teams came out for the restart, Niall Quinn was seen having words with Bilong.

McCarthy made two changes to the back four at the break, with Gary Breen and Andy O’Brien replacing Harte and Dunne.

Breen had a chance to make an impact when he had a free header at the far post after 50 minutes from Reid’s corner, but he did not make clean contact and sent it wide.
