Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation following a fatal knife attack in the South of the city early this morning.

Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation following a fatal knife attack in the South of the city early this morning.

A 23-year-old local man was stabbed shortly after 12.30am in the Cushlawn Dale Estate in Tallaght.

It is understood there had been an altercation outside a shop in the housing estate which carried on up to Cushlawn Dale, where the attack took place.

The victim was rushed to nearby Tallaght Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post mortem is to be carried out this afternoon.
