Arts Minister John O’Donoghue paid a visit today to the star-studded film set of Maeve Binchy’s Tara Road.

Mr O’Donoghue met the producers and some members of the cast, which includes Hollywood superstar Andie McDowell, at the Royal Marine Hotel car park in Dun Laoighaire.

The minister spent around 30 minutes chatting with the Groundhog Day star, Ms McDowell, Olivia Williams, who is playing Ria, producer Noel Pearson and director Gillies MacKinnon.

The film’s credits will also include Irish actor Stephen Rea, TV presenter Ruby Wax, singer Maria Doyle Kennedy, Sarah Bolger, Iain Glen and Johnny Brennan.

The film began shooting on the streets of Dublin last October.

The Kenilworth Square area in Dublin’s Rathgar has been the location of Tara Road.

The production will soon be moving on to South Africa to shoot for three weeks.

Irish author Maeve Binchy penned the story of Ria and Marilyn, brought together by a chance phone-call, who decide to exchange homes for the summer to try and overcome personal problems.

The Dublin-born author, whose book, Circle of Friends, was made into a movie starring Minnie Driver, said she was delighted with her latest film adaptation. Ms Binchy has also revealed that she is hoping for a small walk-on part.
