McBrearty family renews pressure on politicians

Fianna Fail politicians in Donegal are under renewed pressure from the McBrearty family to push to have the terms of reference of the Morris Tribunal extended.

Fianna Fail politicians in Donegal are under renewed pressure from the McBrearty family to push to have the terms of reference of the Morris Tribunal extended.

So far, they have been almost silent in relation to allegations of Garda corruption in Donegal.

However Social and Family Affairs Minister Mary Coughlan who is based in the south of the county, has now confirmed she and her colleague, Minister of State Pat "The cope" Gallagher, are to meet Justice Minister Michael McDowell on Tuesday to discuss the tribunal.

Minister Coughlan has refused to explain exactly what is on the agenda. However she says she will not be calling on Minister McDowell to have the scope of the Tribunal widened.

Somewhat surprisingly Minister Coughlan says she wants to get the background to the tribunal from Minister McDowell, while Minister Gallagher says he wants to establish the facts.
