Harney in spotlight over Magill claims

Progressive Democrats leader Mary Harney is expected to face a barrage of questioning today over her planned legal action against Magill magazine.

Progressive Democrats leader Mary Harney is expected to face a barrage of questioning today over her planned legal action against Magill magazine.

Ms Harney has announced plans to sue the magazine after it claimed that the Flood Tribunal had requested disclosure of her financial details from her time as a Dublin city councillor in the 1980s.

Yesterday, Magill announced that it would stand over the allegations, but the Flood Tribunal later confirmed that it had made no such request.

Ms Harney is campaigning in Laois-Offaly today and questions about the Magill claims will no doubt add to her woes after this morning’s opinion poll which gives the PDs just 2% support nationwide.
