Justice Minister Michael McDowell has held two-and-a-half hours of talks with the families of the victims of the 1998 Omagh bombing.

The talks in Dublin focused on allegations that gardaí had information that could have prevented the bombing, but never passed it on to the RUC.

Speaking afterwards, Michael Gallagher, whose son was among the 29 victims of the Omagh attack, said Mr McDowell had refused to release the contents of a report into the allegations against the gardaí, which were uncovered during an investigation by the North’s Police Ombudsman.

Mr Gallagher accused the Government of hiding information about the Omagh atrocity and he also criticised its decision not to help fund a civil action being taken against five men that the Omagh families accuse of involvement in the deaths of their relatives.
