Irish officials have secured improved access to the Sellafield nuclear plant and its security arrangements under a new deal signed in Dublin today.

The agreement was signed at the Custom House in Dublin by Environment Minister Dick Roche and British Ambassador Stuart Eldon.

The Irish Government has already taken a number of legal actions against Britain over the Sellafield plant due to fears about dangerous emissions and the possibility of a terrorist attack on the facility.

The Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition has also stated that its ultimate goal is to have the factory closed down for good.
