American Amanda Knox and her boyfriend were fairly convicted of murdering British student Meredith Kercher, the judges in their trial announced today.
In a 400-page written report giving their reasons for the guilty verdicts, they said the case against Knox and Italian Raffaele Sollecito was sound.
Both were convicted of murdering Miss Kercher, from Coulsdon, south London, after she refused to join in a sex game at her apartment in the Italian town of Perugia.
The judges said they acted without any planning or resentment against their victim.
They added the pair showed a “sort of repentance” when they covered the naked body of Miss Kercher after the 2007 murder.
Knox was sentenced to 26 years in jail, while Sollecito received 25 years.
Both insist they are innocent.
