Eight extra horses have been entered in the 2010 Investec Derby at Epsom at a cost of £8,000.
Two of the colts are owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah – Michael Stoute’s Workforce and Henry Cecil’s Bullet Train.
“I previously said that Workforce was not certain to stay a mile and a half because he was by King’s Best. Obviously, Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore think differently and so he has been given an entry in the Derby,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, Abdullah’s racing manager.
“He will hopefully progress towards the Investec Derby and the 2000 Guineas is a possibility at the moment. He would probably go straight to Newmarket if he were to take his chance there.
“Bullet Train is the other side of the coin compared to Workforce in terms of breeding – he is by Sadler’s Wells out of a fast mare. There is a lot of stamina in his family and he is a three-parts brother to Powerscourt.
“He won his maiden nicely at Yarmouth, when he ran green, but we are hopeful that he is a progressive type of horse. He has done very well over the winter and Henry is pleased with his progress so far.”
Another of the extra entries is Noble’s Promise, trained in America by Ken McPeek.
“It depends how Noble’s Promise gets on in his next couple of starts whether we decide to come over to the UK but we wanted the option of running him,” said McPeek.
“He is set to run in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park on Saturday and we are aiming him at the Kentucky Derby after that.”
Richard Hannon’s Kalypso King is another and the trainer’s son and assistant Richard jnr said: “Kalypso King couldn’t have been more impressive when winning his maiden at Newbury. He has done well over the winter and we thought that he deserved to get an entry.”
Godolphin have made three extra entries, Passion For Gold, Al Zir and Mahmoud Al Zarooni’s Zeitoper. The final extra entry is Barry Hills’ Rashaad.
