A woman and two children have been killed in a car crash on the main Dublin to Cork road.

A woman and two children have been killed in a car crash on the main Dublin to Cork road.

The three were travelling in one car which collided with a second vehicle on the N8 at Longford Pass at 2.50pm.

Their deaths take the total number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year to 126.

The occupant of the second vehicle has been rushed to Clonmel General Hospital with injuries.

Gardaí from Templemore Garda Station are investigating the fatal collision between Urlingford and Cashel on Kilkenny/Tipperary border.

Motorists in the area are already facing long delays while those currently travelling have been warned to avoid the area completely.

The road remains closed while emergency services continue to work at the scene.

Diversions are in place via Gortnahoe but all HGV are urged to travel via Templemore and Roscrea.
