Gardaí are investigating the murder of a leading dissident republican on the northside of Dublin this afternoon.

Gardaí are investigating the murder of a leading dissident republican on the northside of Dublin this afternoon.

The victim, who has several previous convictions and is known by detectives for his links with the Real IRA, received gunshot wounds in the attack on Grange Lodge Avenue in Clongriffin at around 3.30pm this afternoon.

He died shortly after being taken to Beaumont Hospital.

A second man is currently being treated there for his injuries.

Superintendent Ronan Galligan of Coolock Garda Station is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
