Sol Campbell made his first start of the season to captain Arsenal in their Champions League opener against FC Thun at Highbury.

The England defender has been out since the end of the last campaign because of a calf injury but returned to lead Arsene Wenger’s side against the Swiss debutants.

Striker Thierry Henry was out with a groin injury while Manuel Almunia took the place of the suspended Jens Lehmann in goal.

Dennis Bergkamp and Alexander Hleb dropped to the bench as Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas started following the 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough in the Barclays Premiership.

Arsenal: Almunia, Lauren, Toure, Campbell, Cole, Ljungberg, Silva, Fabregas, Pires, Reyes, Van Persie. Subs: Poom, Bergkamp, Hleb, Song Billong, Clichy, Owusu-Abeyie, Senderos.
