FG's Hogan accuses Taoiseach of rushing bottle-site purchase

Fine Gael has said Brian Cowen made a "rushed decision" when he signed off on the purchase of the Irish Glass Bottle site in Ringsend in Dublin, exposing the taxpayer to the tune of €500m.

The party's Environment Spokesperson Phil Hogan has published freedom of information documents this afternoon relating to the purchase of the site by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority.

They show that Brian Cowen, who was Finance Minister at the time, took only 14 days to sign off on what Fine Gael says was " a €500m property punt".

The Environment Minister John Gormley has defended the Taoiseach's role in the purchase of the site, which is now worth next to nothing.
