City rely on Schmeichel

Sven-Goran Eriksson has failed to bring in a new goalkeeper in time for Sunday’s Manchester derby at Eastlands.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has failed to bring in a new goalkeeper in time for Sunday’s Manchester derby at Eastlands.

The City boss was hoping to find an experienced stopper to take some of the weight off 20-year-old rookie Kasper Schmeichel.

But after admitting defeat, Eriksson will now place his trust in Schmeichel, whose dad Peter is an Old Trafford great.

Brazilian midfielder Elano did not train today after picking up a minor knock in the win over Derby but is expected to be fit in what could be an unchanged line-up, as Eriksson looks to maintain a 100% start to the season at the expense of old foe Alex Ferguson.

Team (from): Schmeichel, Hart, Corluka, Onuoha, Richards, Dunne, Garrido, Ball, Fernandes, Geovanni, Hamann, Johnson, Ireland, Petrov, Elano, Bianchi, Bojinov, Corradi.
