The France international, who arrived in a £6m deal from Sevilla ahead of the transfer deadline, comes in for Thomas Vermaelen who was sidelined by an Achilles injury.

There is also a start for England youngster Jack Wilshere, who spent last season on loan at Bolton, in midfield alongside captain Cesc Fabregas.

With both Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie injured, Marouane Chamakh leads the attack, while fit again winger Samir Nasri is on the bench.

Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan makes his first Premier League start in place of the suspended Jussi Jaaskelainen.
